Our Journey

Circular Economy, Better Future

In a circular economy, the lifecycle of materials is maximised. Our environment is precious; reutilisation of materials at every point possible is the responsible way forward.

The circular economy is central to FoodCap’s operations and was part of our foundation long before the concept became popularised.

Our founders established the company in the chilled food sector in New Zealand based on circular economy core principles of creating a system focused on the prevention of waste, the conservation of resources, and the optimisation of quality.

FoodCap’s initial circular system spanned from harvest to further processing and through to the supermarket shelf. This included unique reusable/recyclable food material handling solutions that reduced food waste, packaging, energy, water and carbon footprint, but also importantly optimised the quality consistency, security and safety of the chilled food produced and delivered to consumers.

Our Circular Economy Vision at Work

More than a decade ago, FoodCap designed and commissioned a unique centralised processing facility producing consumer packed meat without the use of typical single use food and transport packaging.

Our unique reusable technologies have eliminated thousands of tonnes of single use plastics along with its cost and devastating impact on our planet and oceans.

We have also saved hundreds of thousands of trees that would have been processed into single use transportation cartons and wooden pallets.

Positive Environmental Guardianship

  • 121,400,000 cardboard cartons eliminated

  • 103,200,000 plastic vacuum bags eliminated

  • 2,163,000 wooden pallet uses eliminated

  • 253,000km of plastic carton strapping eliminated

(That’s enough to complete 6.33 trips around Earth)

  • 116,000km of plastic pallet wrap eliminated

(that enough to complete 2.89 trips around Earth)
